Most originals painting were done on house fronts, paddles, bentwood boxes, drums, clothing, masks, and bowls. In modern days the northwest coast natives paint on canvas and paper as well. These paintings are sometimes a mixture of traditional images and scenery.
The Haida painted traditional designs on everything. These designs are now being painted on paper, fabric and canvas as well as on all the traditional things such as longhouse fronts, canoes, paddles, spoons, masks, dance regalia, and tattoos on their bodies. Some artists combine traditional designs with realistic scenes in their painting.
